The role of the volunteer at Pines of Sarasota is a special one. They perform a service that supplements the care provided to our residents by Pines' staff. Through the sharing of their individual interests and talents, they enrich our residents' lives by making the time they are with us a more satisfying experience. They can improve the quality of their daily lives.

 

Volunteer visits create a feeling of expectation and excitement, which serves as a positive motivator. With this motivation, residents stay involved or become more involved in the world beyond Pines. By participating with shy or cognitively impaired residents in activities, volunteers are involving residents who would normally remain in their rooms. Whether they visit on a one-to-one basis, entertain an entire group, or engage in any of the other scheduled activities, they add vital variety and interest in our residents' lives. The staff is very appreciative of volunteer assistance in providing special attention that time may prevent them from sharing with the resident.

 

Become a volunteer in one or more of the following areas

Activities Assist: Wheel residents to/from scheduled activities; mail delivery; library cart; board or card games; bingo; arts/crafts; play piano; paint nails, visit with a resident who may not be very communicative - sitting with; listening to music with, reading a book to; reciting the bible or praying with; holding their hand; pushing their wheelchair outside; pet therapy visits, etc.

Rehabilitation Therapy Assist: Wheel residents to/from our Rehab Center on campus

Dining Room Assist: Serve beverages to residents during meals (supervised by staff); "Feed" (training class required) residents who need help eating at a slow pace.

Golf Cart Driver: Drive residents/visitors from one building to another on campus.

Fabulous Finds Thrift Shop Assist: Sorting, displaying, helping customers, etc.
