Teepa_Headshot_75px_wideSarasota, Florida Pines Education Institute of S.W. Florida, the education department of the not-for-profit Pines of Sarasota, announces this year’s Alzheimer’s Dementia Caregiver Conference.

Scheduled for March 19-21, 2012, this series of seminars addresses the ever-growing need for hands-on caregiver training.

Key note presenter and nationally renowned Dementia Caregiving Expert Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, will teach attendees techniques to ease dental care. Another seminar will give tips and advice on how to handle end of life care.

An Emergency Responder seminar, ideal for Law Enforcement Officers, Fire Fighters, and EMTs, will help increase understanding and cooperation with dementia patients.

An additional seminar with Teepa Snow, as well as Brain Exercise Specialist Kathy Laurenhue and Pines of Sarasota Medical Director Bruce Robinson, MD, will focus on risk reduction of developing dementia. In addition, this seminar will discuss how to maintain one’s quality of life if diagnosed.

JoAnn Westbrook, Director of Education at Pines, explains: “Nearly 15 million Americans provide unpaid care for people suffering from dementia. With more and more diagnoses every day it is essential that caregivers, professionals as well as family members receive the opportunity to learn effective, hands-on caregiving techniques to ease their daily, difficult tasks. And Teepa Snow teaches them like no other.”

Teepa Snow, who produced a series of dementia caregiving videos with Pines Education Institute, is returning for her fifth visit to share caregiving techniques with the Sarasota-Manatee community.
